This test is used to determine that the electro-mechanical trip device or the solid state trip system will open the circuit breaker to which it is applied.
- Current is injected through the circuit breaker at values it could see while in service
- Test current values are set by using the manufacturer’s curves and tested to ensure the overcurrent device operates within the trip curve’s values
This is the preferred method of testing since it verifies the sensors, wiring, and trip device as well as the conduction path in the breaker.
